Molinillos Melodía
This piece, designed by delaO Design Studio, explores the Mexican indulgence in food and and the ongoing quest for sensory stimuli that not only enrich but perhaps also have a soothing effect on everyday life. It takes the form of a salt and pepper grinder—seemingly ordinary objects that, in this instance, conceal a music box within. When the grinders are turned, a melody plays: a descending chromatic scale for the pepper and an ascending one for the salt, introducing an unexpected and playful element to the user experience.
Mexican culture is rich with objects that provide fleeting distractions, brief pauses that enhance our connection to reality. This piece offers pleasurable motivation for use, encouraging the regular application of salt or pepper to food, creating a cycle of interaction that transcends mere functionality, transforming the act into a playful game and ultimately enhancing the food's "flavor." The Molinillos Melodía remind us how, in daily life, Mexicans strive to elevate and beautify even the simplest experiences, turning each gesture into a memorable moment.
Molinillos Melodía symbolize our shared defiance against monotony, serving as a reminder that, in our hands, the act of grinding can transform into an expression of our identity.
Produced exclusively for the DECODE GROUP SHOW, only two sets have been created for auction purposes.
